ANGKUL - ANGKUL
Clay,Plants,Paper Mache,Paper,Acrylic | Wood 60x90
2024
This artwork highlights the cultural significance of the Angkul-Angkul, the traditional village entrance in Bali, Indonesia. Through this piece, I wanted to emphasize the gate’s imposing presence by playing with light and shadows on a sculpture, representing a mythical monster—protective figure—called ‘Barong’ on its front doors. This creature stands as a guardian, protecting and preserving the community and culture within the village. This artwork aims to convey the importance of traditional Indonesian architecture, its role in safeguarding heritage and identity.
